Habitat and Biodiversity Assessment
Farmlands in Manitoba are home to many species of native plants and wildlife, which benefit greatly from the stewardship actions of Manitoba landowners and land managers.
The Habitat and Biodiversity Assessment Tool is tailored to your location and the habitats on your land, offering stewardship opportunities that support productive and diverse ecosystems that are more resilient to climate extremes, and essential ecosystems services such as improved soil nutrients, water quality and pollination.

Acknowledgements and Data Sources
A committee of dedicated professionals contributed to the various developmental stages of the Manitoba HBAT+ through discussion and review. Many thanks to the Manitoba Conservation Data Centre, Manitoba Agriculture, Keystone Agricultural Producers, Manitoba Habitat Conservancy, Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The development of the Manitoba HBAT has benefited greatly from the content and functionality of the precursive Alberta HBAT, which was used as a foundational resource. Jeff Harder (ECCC) provided database management and range maps acquisition. The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association provided national technical expertise and fostered collegial collaboration among provinces during the tool’s development process across Canada. This project has been funded by the Canada Nature Fund through Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Public and private biodiversity data sources are (one of) the backbones of this tool and have been shared with this project in the spirit of conservation and collaboration. We further gratefully acknowledge all volunteer participants who gathered observations and data for citizen science databases.
